Here at Formby, we consider ourselves technology savvy and indeed keep up with the latest technological advancements to help further the development of our line of work. What we have integrated into our working environment is the use of VR. This has opened a whole new space for us in terms of how we can revisit sights and gain multiple inputs.

The advancements of VR are truly amazing, the attention to detail on certain scans has given us that whole different outlook on projects.

At first glance of the headsets, they resembled something from a futuristic alien movie. With one placement of the headset, we would suddenly find ourselves in a place that doesn’t bare any familiarity.

The size and shape had an uncanny resemblance to welding goggles but with a smooth matte black finish which was curved off with the fitting of the screen. Two joysticks are allocated to navigate freely within a virtual space.

Within the VR world, visually the graphics were outstanding but still, areas of improvements are needed to further enhance attention to detail on set things. Regardless of the minor issues the quality was still good enough to survey and evaluate jobs at a high standard. While engulfed within the headset an issue we faced that our peripheral vision was closed off which lead to the lack of external awareness, in turn, lead to confusion.

In all this experience has been an achievement and a positive. This will help further our capabilities within our current areas of expertise and in turn, allocates the advancements of technology within our current working environment.
